Fill ‘Er Up With Food and Fuel

If you want gourmet food, look no further than at a number of Washington, D.C.-area gas stations.

WASHINGTON – Want a gourmet meal? Well, you might want to go to the local gas station to satisfy your craving, reports The Washington Post.

In a front-page article, the newspaper examined some of the great food available at area gas stations.

“If you just walk a few feet from the pump to the store, you might discover one of the best eating experiences of your life,” noted Al Hebert, otherwise known as the Gas Station Gourmet and a regular contributor to NACS Magazine.

“We think food is the future of gas stations. People now know they can get a great meal from a truck, and it has expanded the horizons where people no longer expect a good meal can only be found at a place with a tablecloth,” added NACS spokesman Jeff Lenard.

It’s not the location; it’s the food. If you serve good food, people will find you no matter where you are,” said Chef Rodrigo Albarran, who operates R&R Taqueria at a Shell station in Maryland.

R&R Taqueria is one of four Washington, D.C.-area gas stations featured in this year’s NACS“Ideas 2 Go” video program, which will debut at the NACS Show on Oct. 14. Registration for the NACS Show, which takes place Oct 12-15 in Atlanta, is available online.
