TULSA, Okla. – McDonald’s might be bringing the Happy Meal to breakfast. According to US News & World Report, the fast-food giant is thinking about expanding its all-day breakfast to include a morning version of its popular kids meal.

Starting yesterday, McDonald’s is testing breakfast Happy Meals in Tulsa. The a.m. version includes either two McGriddle cakes or an egg-and-cheese McMuffin sandwich, plus the choice of hash browns, apple slices or yogurt.

McDonald’s Corp. CEO Steve Easterbrook has said he’s on a mission to convert the company into a “modern, progressive” burger chain. As part of that strategy, last year McDonald’s introduced all-day breakfast at its U.S. locations. While U.S. sales have risen during the last four quarters, it’s not clear if that’s from higher prices or more customer visits.

McDonald’s has always brought in more families than its competition, with its iconic Happy Meals as part of the draw. If the morning version pilot program proves a success, it would be the first time a new entrée was introduced for the Happy Meal in more than three decades.
