Consumers Will Drive the Future of Fuels

Consumer perception will go under the microscope at Fuels Institute Annual Meeting and Fuels Summit.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The future of fuels and vehicles will be determined by what consumers want to drive and which fuels they consider to be best for their needs. But what are their core motivations? Are tomorrow’s consumers different from today’s? How can the fuels and vehicles industries best prepare to meet the demand of tomorrow’s drivers?

These are questions that will be addressed at the Fuels Institute Annual Meeting and Fuels Summit, November 17-18 in Newport Beach, California.

“Industry can develop and introduce any technology or fuel they believe will satisfy the interests of the market, but ultimately the consumer will decide what succeeds and what fails,” said John Eichberger, executive director of the Fuels Institute. “As we look down the road, we see that the profile of the typical driver is changing. It is critical that the industry understands what drives these consumers and develops solutions that appeal to their needs.”

The Fuels Institute Annual Meeting and Fuels Summit will look closely at consumer perceptions and behavior from a variety of angles. The closing speaker of the conference is Scott Griffith, XIR at General Catalyst Partners and former chairman and CEO of ZipCar. Having ushered into the market the new paradigm of a car-sharing service, Griffith understands what tomorrow’s consumers want from their vehicles and will share his perspective on where the market is going, particularly as it relates to Millennials.

The Fuels Summit will also feature an expert panel discussion on consumer behavior, looking at the primary interests and concerns of consumers when considering vehicle and fuel options.  Panelists including Avery Ash, director of federal relations for AAA; Jessica Caldwell, executive director, senior analytics at Edmunds.com; and Rob Green, senior vice president at Penn Schoen Berland, a messaging and communications strategy firm that has been interviewing consumers about fuels and vehicles for NACS for the past decade, will provide insight into what it will take for consumers to adopt and embrace new vehicle and fuel technologies.

On its final day, the Fuels Summit will move learning and exploring alternatives from discussion to experience as attendees witness market development first-hand by visiting Toyota for a ride and drive of alternative fuel vehicles and visiting retail fueling facilities that are stepping into the future by offering alternative fuels such as LNG and hydrogen.

The 2014 Fuels Institute Annual Meeting and Fuels Summit will be a very unique opportunity for attendees to engage in meaningful discussion to uncover real facts about future market opportunities. To learn more, visit fuelsinstitute.org/summit.
