BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Last weekend, Alabama residents walked to help end global poverty as part of The Partnership Walk Birmingham, in support of the Aga Khan Foundation. More than $300,000 was raised toward the Foundation’s goal of improving education, business opportunities and health care for people living in poverty in Africa and Asia.

The Partnership Walk kicked off at Birmingham’s Railroad Park on Sunday, with the dual goal of raising money and increasing awareness about global poverty. All proceeds raised from the walk go to the Aga Khan Foundation and its programs, which help to create opportunities such as education programs for girls, books for schools, wells and dams for villages, and health and wellness programs.

During Sunday’s event, the Alabama Merchants Association, representing convenience and fuel retailers in the Birmingham metropolitan area, was recognized with an award for their ongoing sponsorship of The Partnership Walk event. Pictured here is the AMA Board of directors accepting the award.
