Drive-thru locations are closing just 16 months after coming to North Texas market.

DALLAS – DMagazine.com reports that Starbucks is closing its drive-thru Seattle’s Best Coffee locations just 16 months after entering the North Texas market. Eight of the drive-thrus are closing in October and two of the locations have been converted to Starbucks stores.

Starbucks entered the Dallas-Fort Worth area in May 2013, touting the 520-square-foot prototype Seattle’s Best stores as low-priced food-and-drink alternatives to chains like McDonald’s, Dunkin’ Donuts and 7-Eleven, notes the magazine.

A spokeswoman for Starbucks declined to blame the store closures on poor sales. “There’s still plenty of opportunity in the coffee space,” she told the magazine, adding, “We just decided to reinvest in areas where we’re already strong,” such as national accounts and packaged coffee.
