COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Starting next month, drivers will be able to fill up at the pump and purchase medical marijuana inside the store at the new Gas and Grass stations in Colorado Springs, Fox21News.com reports. Run by Native Roots, the stations—set to welcome customers in October—will be the first to combine fuel with weed.

“We figured this gave the opportunity to potentially take a stop off their trips and give them one more opportunity to shop with us,” Native Roots spokesman Dave Cuesta told the news source. He added that the stations will have typical convenience store items inside the store, just also medical marijuana for those with a medical cannabis prescription card.

Some people admired the entrepreneurial spirit of the unusual pairing. “Kinda continues the convenience store [theme] with everything one-stop shopping and I don’t see a problem with that,” commented resident Phillip Besaw.

However, some detractors expressed concern over encountering weed when picking up a six-pack. But Cuesta pointed out that the many rules and regulations governing medical marijuana will keep it out of the hands of minors and provide a safe environment for all customers. “You’re not allowed to smoke in our centers ever,” he said. “There’s many, many rules and regulations that prohibit any on-site consumption.”

Native Roots also said that educating both staff and customers on the laws of smoking and driving, as well as what’s permissible in the stores, will be a top priority.
