LONDON – Coca-Cola will launch the world’s first hot, carbonated beverage, The Telegraph reports.

Called Canada Dry Hot Ginger Ale, the beverage will go on sale next month in vending machines across Japan for a price of 130 yen ($1.30 U.S.).

Japanese consumers have long embraced hot drinks including tea, coffee and soup in self-heating cans, especially during the winter months. The drinks are ubiquitous in vending machines and convenience stores throughout the country.

However, this is the first time that heat has been combined with carbonation, tapping into a rising hot-fizzy drink market in Japan.

Indeed, Coke will soon find company in this new category, with Kirin Beverage Co. expected to launch a hot fizzy drink in November, a new version of the company’s popular Kirin no Awa drink.
