TOKYO – Intersect by Lexus is a new retail concept that transforms traditional car dealerships into a unique retail space — allowing consumers to experience Lexus without getting?behind the steering wheel, and offers a space for guests to engage with Lexus through events, activities and food.

The first Intersect location is in Tokyo, “a unique crossroads of people, city and cars,” according to the Lexus website. It features a coffee bar, a partnership between Lexus and Norway’s FULGEN, designed to turn a cup of coffee “into a true cultural and lifestyle experience.” There’s also a bistro area for travelers to dine on modern Tokyo cuisine, including an array of cocktails and craft beers.

Then there is of course the Lexus Garage, which the company calls an “exhibition space that is both an art gallery and? at the same time, an exciting secret hideout.”

The Tokyo location also offers a variety of events such as talks and workshops featuring leading creators of Intersect. “?The goal is to create an opportunity for new experiences?that are fresh, exciting and inspiring.”

A second Intersect retail location is also open in New York City, with a third location planned for Dubai.

Renowned interior designer Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall Inc. is designing the stores, which seek to attract a younger demographic and break through the automaker’s “conservative” image, reports Sourceable.net.

My concept for Intersect by Lexus wasn’t something just about Lexus but more a kind of ‘clubhouse’ where Lexus owners could gather, socialize, work or just come to hang out,” Katayama told the news source, adding, “I imagined a diverse space that could be used in different ways.”
