CHICAGO – Motorists in a Chicago-area suburb were greeted by police officers Friday morning. Fortunately the police weren’t handing out speeding tickets; they were working as full-service attendants at a local BP Earth Market station, operated by Atlas Oil, as part of the “Full Serve and Protect” fundraising event, reports CBSLocal.com.

WBBM Newsradio’s Mike Krauser reports that Alsip Police Lt. Scott Zablotny was among the officers pumping gas at the BP Earth Market at 123rd and Cicero.

“A few months ago, we hooked up with Earth Market and did a community event, where the public was invited to come out, have coffee, talk to officers,” Zablotny told the news source. “The owner suggested it would be a fun idea to do it as a full service gas station.”

All tips the officers received were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
