ABINGTON, Mass. ?" Internet grocer Peapod launched Peapod Pick-Up earlier this week, a new service in partnership with a local Stop & Shop store that allows customers to collect their order in lieu of Peapod??s traditional home delivery, Supermarket News reports.

As part of the service, customers who order groceries through Peapod will be able to pick them up at the store during a designated one-hour window between 8 am and 8 pm Sunday through Friday, and from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday. While the service will eventually cost $2.95, it is currently offered free of charge.

"Customers can shop anywhere, anytime from a computer, tablet or smartphone and Peapod Pick-Up now provides a convenient alternative to our delivery service," said Andrew Parkinson, Peapod??s president. "We are thrilled to open our first Peapod Pick-Up at the Abington Stop & Shop and look forward to opening additional locations in the future."

Both Peapod and Stop & Shop are divisions of Quincy, Massachusetts-based Ahold USA.
