Wyoming Begins Selling Lottery Tickets

Thousands of residents competed for the honor of buying state’s first ticket.

CASPER, Wyo. — Starting Sunday, Wyoming began selling Powerball and Mega Millions tickets at nearly 400 retailers across the state. Customers lined up eagerly to be among the first to purchase tickets, following the inaugural lottery ticket sale to Mary Ogg, a 67-year-old woman in Sheridan, who got the honor of being the was the first Wyoming resident to buy a lottery ticket on Sunday.

The state’s lottery is expected to earn between $13 million and $17 million in its first year, with the first $6 million in profits going to local governments. Earnings after that will go to support a state school fund.
