DENVER – Hungry college students who care about the environment now have a list of go-to green snacks in convenience stores, thanks to the Sierra Club, the Denver Examiner reports. The September/October 2013 Sierra magazine offers five green snacks for eco-conservative students that can be found at local convenience stores.

The number-one green snack at convenience stores is apples. Many convenience stores stock either locally grown varieties or at least U.S. sourced apples. In California and Florida, fresh oranges appear next to the apples. The magazine suggested students ask the store for organic fruit to use their “purchasing power for the good.”

Also on the list are Clif Bars, a high energy bar with organic ingredients. The company that produces Clif Bars is climate-neutral that is working on diverting 90% of its waste from landfills, along with sourcing cocoa from Rainforest Alliance certified companies.

SunChips also appear on the list because the popular chips are made in a plant that uses renewable energy. Naked Juice products, made in a LEED-certified factory that uses solar panel, appeared on the list, too. With its “truly transparent sustainability policies,” Honest Tea is the last item on the green snack list.
