CLEVELAND – Ticket sales for the Ohio Lottery were flat in July compared to the same month last year, Cleveland.com reports.

While sales of online games including Powerball and Pick 3 increased nearly 8%, sales of instant tickets declined by nearly 8%. Overall, sales totaled $206.5 million, .6% less than in July 2012.

Ohio Lottery director Dennis Berg said the drop is attributed to consumers shifting from convenience stores to big-box stores, the latter that typically do not offer lottery game. He also said the state’s four new casinos are impacting sales.

Overall for the fiscal year that ended June 30, sales of traditional lottery games were down 1.4% to just under $2.7 billion.
