CARY, N.C., and SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Convenience stores have a long and successful history of sponsoring fundraisers to benefit the military and the latest efforts from Corner Store and Kangaroo Express continue the tradition.

With more than a month to go in its fourth annual Salute Our Troops® campaign, Kangaroo Express, operated by The Pantry Inc., announced that it has already reached its $1 million fundraising goal. The campaign collected donations through its more than 1,520 Kangaroo Express convenience stores across 13 states, with every penny of the $1 million raised attributed to incremental dollar donations made at Kangaroo Express checkout counters this summer.

“We are thrilled that for the fourth year in a row, our employees and guests have shown their appreciation for these great military cause organizations in droves, once again reaching the $1 million fundraising goal prior to the end of summer,” said Gordon Schmidt, senior vice president of operations, Kangaroo Express, in a press release. “We are rallying behind our guests and employees to see what else we can accomplish in the final weeks of the campaign.”

This week, Corner Store kicks off “Military Mondays” in its 150-plus San Antonio-area stores by offering free Cibolo Mountain coffee or Flavors2Go fountain drink to all active and retired military members.

“The military is such an important part of the community and this gives our team members the opportunity to personally thank those men and women for their service to our community and country,” said Kim Bowers, CEO of CST Brands, Corner Store’s parent company, in a press release.
