SACRAMENTO, Calif. – To help bring healthy food options to community residents, multiple Sacramento County departments are partnering with local businesses such as convenience stores.

PublicCEO.com writes that a Shell station, “located amidst a hustling, bustling South Sacramento neighborhood,” will soon offer healthy foods by dedicating 15% of its retail space to fresh produce, dairy products and potentially healthy proteins such as fish. The products will be located at the front of the store to increase visibility.

“We are so excited to partner with Vinod Paul and the County of Sacramento to make healthy choices available at the Florin Shell station,” said Health Education Council Executive Director Debra Oto-Kent. “We applaud Mr. Paul’s efforts to be responsive to the community’s need for healthy food and look forward to making fruits and vegetables more accessible in South Sacramento.”

As more convenience operators across the country look to expand their healthy food options, NACS and the United Fresh Produce Association recently formed a new partnership to significantly increase the sales of fresh produce in convenience stores.
