CARPINTERIA, Calif. - The company that brought us the Monster Burger and Monster Breakfast Sandwich is testing the waters for a foot-long cheeseburger, USA Today reports.

This summer, 50 Hardee??s locations in Indiana and 50 Carl??s Jr. stores in Southern California are offering a sandwich boasting three burgers and cheese slices nestled in a 12-inch bun.

"We live in a society that??s fascinated with all things big," said Scott Hume, editor of BurgerBusiness.com. "It??s inherently American to push for something bigger and better than anyone else has."

Carl??s marketing chief Brad Haley said chain developed the foot-long burger to appeal to its core demographic: young males between the ages of 18 and 24. "Obviously, the foot-long sandwich has been very successful at Subway. But we decided to do it the Carl??s way," he said.

If customers flock to the foot-long burger, the company will expand it to other locations of sister chains Carl??s and Hardee??s by the end of the year.

Other fast-food chains are super-sizing their products, too. Sonic placed a foot-long hot dog on its menus, while Quiznos is considering adding premium foot-longs, such as one with prime rib?"in early autumn. Next month, Subway has plans to debut a spicy line of foot-long sandwiches.
