NEW YORK – Get ready for the comeback of the Twinkie, coming
to store shelves July 15.
Hostess Brands LLC, formerly Hostess Brands Inc., is
expecting “a blockbuster return next month for Twinkies and other sugary
treats, such as CupCakes and Donettes,” reports the Wall Street Journal, adding
that each box says the snack cakes will taste the same, and carry a new
tagline: “The Sweetest Comeback In The History Of Ever.”
“A lot of impostor products have come to the market while
Hostess has been off the shelves,” Daren Metropoulos told the newspaper, a
principal of the investment firm Metropoulos & Co., which teamed up with
Apollo Global Management to buy Twinkies and other Hostess cakes for $410
million.
Since Hostess-branded product left store shelves, the cakes
have been going through some “touchups,” writes the Journal. The company is
using dark cocoa instead of milk chocolate for the CupCakes to give them a
richer, darker appearance. And prices will remain the same; a box of 10
Twinkies will cost $3.99.
