ALEXANDRIA, VA - The 1970s saw incredible growth in the convenience and fuel retailing industry: In that decade alone, the number of U.S. convenience stores doubled. During that time, NACS was still a young organization, entering its second decade of helping the industry come together as one voice.

During this time, the focus was on education ?" specifically, how to adapt to the growing demand for gasoline and groceries. In "The 1970s: New Opportunities," Bill Weigel of Weigel??s Farm Stores recounts the changes his stores experienced when the company implemented gasoline sales.

"Now with gasoline introduced, that opened up a whole new opportunity," he said.
