MADISON - Wisconsin??s Legislative Audit Bureau released data last week showing the state??s lottery ticket sales have increased 2% over the past five years, the Associated Press reports.
Lottery ticket sales in the Badger State totaled $503 million in 2011, up from roughly $492 million in 2006. Wisconsin??s lottery sales have increased gradually since 2008, recording a 4.5% jump between 2010 and 2011.
Proceeds from the lottery have generated more than $700 million in property tax relief over the past five years, with players reaping $292 million in prizes in 2011.
Scratch-off tickets were the state??s most popular game last year, accounting for $299 million in sales. Powerball was the second most popular at $65 million.
