FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Grocers Association Inc. & Kentucky Association of Convenience Stores Inc. (KGA/KACS) has been working with Kentucky Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) officials to expand the benefits distribution time frame from the current 10-day distribution to a new 19-day distribution.

Ted Mason, KGA/KACS executive director, told NACS Daily that Kentucky is moving forward with the benefits distribution change, subject to one remaining legislative hearing. SNAP officials have begun sharing the new distribution schedule with clients, and the change is expected to take place this August and September.

Mason said that while this change has taken longer than expected, Kentucky retailers will be able to provide SNAP clients and all shoppers with better store staffing and improved grocery inventory management, while maintaining fresher stocks of perishable items throughout the month.
