Lawson, Yahoo Japan Offer Joint Shopping Service

The smartphone service will also direct users to nearby Lawson convenience stores.

TOKYO - Japanese convenience store chain Lawson and Yahoo Japan Corp. announced a joint venture to offer a shopping website for smartphone users by December, The Japan Times reports.

Lawson and Yahoo are also establishing a similar computer-based site, slated for August, that could pull in some 60 million customers for both the computer and smartphone services.

"The smartphone service will make use of the versatile phones?? global positioning systems to direct customers to nearby Lawson stores," writes the newspaper.
