LONDON - Three American restaurant chains will soon become part of the British landscape, Bloomberg Business Week reports. Chipotle, Ruby Tuesday and Taco Bell are entering the competitive U.K. restaurant market.

Chipotle and Ruby Tuesday each opened their first U.K. location last month, with Taco Bell launching its invasion this month. This will be Taco Bell??s second try, having made an attempt during the early 1990s. "This will be the first of a long existence in the U.K.," said Nick Dawson, general manager for U.K. and Europe at Taco Bell.

McDonald??s, along with Pizza Hut and KFC (owned by Yum! Brands, as is Taco Bell), have found success in the United Kingdom, but other restaurant chains have not been so lucky. Wendy??s made two tries at establishing itself in Britain for calling it quits in 2007.

"The great thing about the U.K. foodservice market is that it is very dynamic and highly diverse, particularly in London where there is a smorgasbord [of outlets]," said Steve Gotham, project director at Allegra Strategies. "For expansionist U.S. chains, the U.K. is a natural entry point into Europe, with an established eating-out culture that readily embraces new style cuisines and branded concepts."

Taco Bell and Chipotle see a big hole in the U.K. market for Mexican food. "We think that Mexican style food has been growing in popularity in the U.K., whether it is eating out or dining in at home," said Dawson.
