LOUISVILLE, KY - The Kentucky Lottery adopted a 2011-12 operating budget last week that is forecasting record-breaking sales for the coming fiscal year, the Courier-Journal reports.

Lottery president Arch Gleason said the predicted record-setting sales kicking off July 1 assume a gain in sales of instant and scratch-off games as well as for Mega Millions and Powerball. He also predicted substantial sales for a new online game that has yet to be introduced.

The adopted budget estimates statewide sales for all games of $813 million next fiscal year, up sharply from the projected $774 million in sales for the current year.

Lottery senior vice president of finance and administration Howard Kline said online ticket sales in the coming year are expected to reach $325 million, with scratch-off sales budgeted at just under $500 million ($488 million). Both reflect a 5 percent increase over the projection for the current year.

Gleason told the lottery board that the corporation has continued to build profitability after struggling slightly through the first half of the current fiscal year.
