McDonald’s Expands McDelivery

The service will be at 3,500 locations by the end of the month.

OAK BROOK, Ill. – Currently, more than 2,000 McDonald’s restaurants offer delivery via UberEats, but by the end of June, that number will jump to 3,500 locations—or one in four U.S. locations, CNBC reports. Already, the number of U.S. McDonald’s offering delivery more than doubled in less than a month.

The most popular ordering time for delivery is in the evening or late night, with 60% of the delivery orders coming in during those hours. “We are encouraged by early results in the U.S. where delivery is resonating well, particularly with our younger customers,” said CEO Steve Easterbrook.

While McDonald’s has long had a robust delivery service in the Middle East and Asia, this is the first time it has offered delivery in the United States. In 2016, the fast-food chain generated close to $1 billion in delivery sales around the world.

Easterbrook said McDelivery has attracted young customers, a group that traditionally has been difficult for the burger chain to entice into its stores, according to the Chicago Tribune. The average delivery time is around half an hour.

U.S. cities with McDelivery include Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Fresno, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, D.C.
