WASHINGTON – Residents of Washington, D.C., can now can now cross one item off their to-do lists since this week’s launch of Ultra, an alcohol delivery service. According to an article in the Washington Business Journal, Ultra guarantees its customers booze delivery within 30-60 minutes, with a flat fee of $5 and no maximum order.

Now available in some parts of the city, the company is hoping to expand its offering into Northern Virginia within a couple of weeks, Ultra CEO Aniket Shah told Washington Business Journal.

Alcohol delivery is not a new phenomenon in the District, with several of the city's liquor stores offering in-house delivery already, but Ultra functions as a technology provider and marketing tool for local alcohol purveyors, with a website (and soon a mobile app) for customers to place orders.

The company partners with local liquor stores to make the delivery possible within an hour. Ultra launched in the New York metro area last summer and is currently available in Chicago, with anticipated launches in another eight cities — Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Dallas and Houston — by the end of the year.
