SEATTLE – A new business in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood recently opened up by active lifestyle brand Miir. Described as part coffee shop, part bar, part bike shop with a dose of activism on the side, the flagship store will donate 3% of its revenue to help others, according to Jesse Davis, director of retail.

“People come in and say ‘This is so different from anything they've ever experienced, what are you guys?’” Davis told news station KING5.com in Seattle, adding that the store is about sharing Miir’s vision.

"We wanted to create a space where the community could interact with the Miir story," Davis said. "Every time you're purchasing a cup of coffee, every time you buy a pint of beer you're providing clean drinking water to one person for one day.”

Founded in 2009, Miir began selling water bottles and bikes with a portion of the money providing clean water and bikes to people in impoverished areas around the world, notes the news source. Today, the company is expanding that idea by selling coffee and beer in Seattle. Codes on receipts let customers know where their money is being donated, and photos on the store’s walls showcase bicycles Miir has helped fund and water projects the company is involved with. So far Miir has helped fund 35 water projects.

"When you get to see the celebration of clean water and what that means for them, it's really impactful," Miir founder Bryan Papé told the news source. "I consider myself lucky to see those things happen."

So far, response from the community has been positive, especially when customers realize part of their purchase is helping others. "It's amazing a single drink can help. It's not much money for us, but for where they need water, it's a lot," one customer told the news source.
