WASHINGTON - A group of representatives is calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to throw her support behind a Senate amendment included in the Senate version of the financial reform bill, Bloomberg reports.
"It helps level the playing field between small businesses and credit card companies," Reps. Peter Welch (D-VT), Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Chris Carney (D-PA) wrote Pelosi.
The Senate approved the proposal 64-33 and the amendment has "strong momentum," said Welch yesterday at a news conference attended by Reps. Walter Jones (R-NC), Keith Ellison (D-MN) and John Hall (D-NY).
"The House will review the amendment and the issue will be resolved in conference," said Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) will head a bipartisan group to work on combining the Senate and House versions of the reform bill.
Last year, Welch and Shuster co-sponsored a measure that would have limited fees placed on premium credit cards, which usually have higher swipe fees to pay for rewards programs.
