ATLANTA – Chick-fil-A is getting into the swing of summer with two new barbecue-inspired menu items available for a limited time. From May 22 to August 19, customers can order a Smokehouse BBQ Bacon Sandwich and Watermelon Mint Lemonade in restaurants nationwide.

The restaurant company’s first seasonal menu item, the BBQ sandwich, is served on a new Hawaiian-style bun with Colby-Jack cheese and a zesty BBQ sauce crafted specifically for the entrée.

“We know our customers love the flavors of our grilled menu, and we are excited to offer two items this season that will give them something new to try,” said David Farmer, Chick-fil-A vice president of menu strategy and development.

“This is the first time we have tried what were are calling a seasonal approach to an entree," Farmer told Business Insider. “We wanted to do something different for the summer." The news source notes that if the 500-calorie sandwich is successful, the chain will likely bring it back next summer.

Chick-fil-A developed the sandwich over the past two years with Atlanta restaurateur and James Beard Award-nominated chef Ford Fry, writes Business Insider. However, Chick-fil-A postponed the launch to focus its efforts on marketing its mobile app. The new BBQ sandwich was tested in several markets in the summer of 2015, including Richmond, Virginia; St. Louis, Missouri; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Southwest Florida.
