CHICAGO – Breakfast sandwiches are growing in popularity at
the largest QSRs, according to Technomic’s MenuMonitor service.
In early 2013, breakfast sandwiches were up 8.1% annually on
the menus of Top 500 limited service restaurants, while another Technomic
survey reported that one-third of consumers consume a breakfast sandwich at
least once a week.
"Sandwiches are an important part of a restaurant's
menu," said Technomic Executive Vice President Darren Tristano.
"The number of ingredients, preparation methods, and sauces can seem
endless. Keeping abreast of trends appearing on restaurant menus is one way
operators and suppliers can get ahead of their competition."
Technomic's MenuMonitor provides operators and suppliers
with detailed menu information and insights, along with the ability to search
by ingredients, sauces, preparations and brands. Key breakfast sandwich data
include:
- Bacon is the most popular breakfast protein,
appearing on 30.1% of sandwiches, followed by ham (23.7%) and sausage (22.9%).
- Flatbreads, paninis and croissants posted strong
gains among breakfast sandwich breads.
