ALEXANDRIA, VA - NACS has launched a microsite to celebrate the convenience and fuel retailing industry€™s growth and accomplishments over the past 50 years, NACS50.com. The site is one of several initiatives that NACS is undertaking this year to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

NACS was founded on August 14, 1961, to give the growing convenience store industry a unified voice. Since then, the industry has grown from under half a billion dollars in annual sales to more than half a trillion dollars ($575 billion in 2010, according to NACS State of the Industry data).

"What we as an industry have accomplished goes far beyond sales," said NACS President and CEO Hank Armour. "We now are a channel of choice for leading suppliers. We are part of every community in the country, if not around the world. And we have a robust voice on Capitol Hill and with the media. What we have collectively done as an industry over the past 50 years is quite simply staggering €" and it is worth celebrating."

NACS50.com includes a look at the industry€™s history and accomplishments by decade, beginning with the 1960s, and features pictures, videos and other information about the industry€™s growth. It also includes a link for NACS members to get involved.

The August issue of NACS Magazine will feature extensive reporting on some of the industry€™s biggest achievements over the past 50 years. Attendees at the NACS Show, October 1 to 4 in Chicago, will also be able to participate in events related to the anniversary.
