CINCINNATI – Kroger Co. is selling prepared meal kits, marking the grocery chain’s entry into a fast-growing home-delivery market that’s being driven by companies like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh.

Local news station WCPO reports that Kroger is offering proprietary meals kits under its Prep + Pared brand in four Cincinnati stores, with plans to expand the meal kits to additional Kroger locations. The five meal kits feature the following recipes: Moroccan Inspired Spring Vegetables, Japanese Inspired Beef Bowl, Chimichurri Steak, Creamy Chicken and Bacon Alfredo and Chicken Enchiladas Rojas.

“Kroger continuously looks for ways to make our customers lives easier and they have told us they want fresh, convenient and affordable meal solutions," said Vanessa Egle, senior director of culinary strategy and development, in a news release. “With Prep+Pared, we’ve taken all of the work behind planning and preparing a fresh, delicious meal and made it easy to cook in just minutes.”

Cooking time for the meal kits is about 20 minutes or less. Each Prep+Pared kit feeds two adults and ranges in price from $14 to $18. There is no subscription needed for the Prep+Pared meal kits, which are available through ClickList online ordering.
