MCLEAN, Va. - Today, someone could walk away with the $266 million Mega Millions jackpot, the highest amount in nine months, the Lottery Post reports. The run up began March 16 as a $12 million grand prize.

The cash-out amount would be $165.2 million, much more than the last month€™s $258 million Powerball winner with a cash value of $124.9 million.

The Mega Millions amount has climbed over 14 consecutive drawings with no top prize winner. Currently, Mega Millions can be played in 38 states plus Washington, D.C. This month, two additional states €" Maine on May 9 and South Dakota on May 16 €" will add Mega Millions.

Since Mega Millions and Powerball can now be sold in the same state, convenience stores have seen a shift in lottery sales.
