Coalition Urges Passage of “Patent Troll” Legislation

More than 200 organizations sign letter for Senate Judiciary Committee.

WASHINGTON – On April 29, the Big Tent Patent Coalition, of which NACS is a member, sent a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee urging them to pass legislation dealing with abusive patent litigation.

So-called patent trolls have wreaked havoc with businesses across a broad spectrum of industries, from brick and mortar retailers to technology companies, by filing frivolous patent lawsuits against business of all sizes.

The Senate Judiciary is scheduled to consider a bill this Thursday, which would curtail the activities of patent trolls. The Big Tent letter, signed by more than 200 organizations, is intended to ensure that the bill receives adequate support. NACS has worked with its allies for months to get to this point.

The House passed its version of reform in December and strong support in the Senate Judiciary Committee would give the effort a significant boost as the legislation moves to consideration by the full Senate.
