Bill passes the Senate and now heads to the Assembly, with little resistance.

SACRAMENTO, CA - A bill advancing through California€™s Legislature seeks to ban energy drinks containing beer, the Associated Press reports.

State Senator Alex Padilla said caffeinated beer beverages are marketed to minors, and with a taste that masks the effects of alcohol, they are being consumed with dire health consequences.

His bill, SB39, passed the Senate earlier this week, 24-14, and now heads to the Assembly.

The bill seeks to prohibit making, importing, or selling caffeinated beer beverages within the state. Padilla said it is similar to bans enacted in Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Utah, and Washington.
