TULSA, Okla. – A new survey found that QuikTrip is the most popular convenience store chain in the United States, the Tulsa World reports. Market Force Information surveyed around 11,000 U.S. consumers about which retailers they preferred. Other highly ranked c-store chains included Cumberland Farms, Kwik Trip, Sheetz and Wawa.

“This year we are thankful and appreciative that our loyal customers made us No. 1,” said Mike Thornbrugh, QuikTrip spokesman. The survey showed the chain received top marks for cleanliness, ease of entry and exit, and security, which Thornbrugh deemed “critical components. … Those things absolutely go hand-in-hand with selling gasoline.”

Cheryl Flink, chief strategy officer for Market Force Information, noted that the cost of gas was the top reason whether someone stopped at a station or not. “But there are many people who couldn’t care less that they’re going to save 20 cents filling up their car,” said Flink. “The next most important thing is around security and good lighting. That’s the second driver.”

She added, “What we’ve seen is that the regional players that are corporately owned tend to do extremely well with consumers. The headquarters has a tighter control over how each of those locations is imaged, the way they’re run.”
