MANSURA, La. – St. Romain
Oil, a family-owned convenience store and wholesale fuels company, has raised
$15,395 and 4,800 jars of peanut butter for the Food Bank of Central Louisiana
as a part of their Corporate Works of Mercy program in an effort to “refuel and
refresh their community.”
The Food Bank of Central
Louisiana’s mission is simple: “To alleviate hunger in Central Louisiana.” To
assist the Food Bank in this mission, St. Romain Oil held the Y-Not Peanut
Butter Drive during the first weekend of March. Why the focus on peanut butter?
It’s rich in protein and fiber, it’s shelf stable, it doesn’t require special
preparation or cooking, and one jar can provide approximately 16 sandwiches to
a hungry family.
St. Romain Oil would like
to thank the sponsors ($3,025), community ($7,087) and team members ($854) who
donated money and/or goods to support this cause.
In addition to the
donations made to the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, St. Romain Oil has
collected approximately 300 jars of peanut butter and three cases of
nonperishable food items for the Care & Share Center in Evangeline parish.
The Care & Share Center is the food pantry that serves the area near two St.
Romain Oil convenience stores, Y-Not Stop Barber Spur and Y-Not Stop Ville
Platte.
The 2013 corporate
sponsors who helped to make this possible are Platinum Sponsors ($1,000)
T-Towne of Jonesville, Imperial Trading Co., KLIL/KZLG, KVPI, and C&S
Canopy; Gold Sponsors ($500) Motiva Enterprises and Coca-Cola; Silver Sponsors
($300) Farm Bureau and Lewer Agency; and Bronze Sponsors ($100) Stelly’s of
Lebeau, Druco Supply, Lott Oil Co., Mardel Products, Goudeau Inc., and
Simmesport State Bank.
The “Y-Not Peanut Butter”
drive is part of St. Romain Oil’s Corporate Works of Mercy program, inspired by
the biblical corporal works of mercy. Other program partners include Turning
Point Battered Women’s Program, Re-Entry Solutions, and the Alzheimer’s
Association to focus on helping more people locally. St. Romain Oil donated
more than $40,000 to the four charities in 2012, and hopes to donate even more
in 2013.
