DEL RAY, VA - City officials in Alexandria, Virginia, home to NACS, recently ordered the removal of all Redbox DVD kiosks stationed outside 7-Eleven convenience stores, DelrayPatch.com reports.

The machines were operating in violation of existing special use permits, said Barbara Ross, Alexandria??s deputy planning director, adding that all operations at 7-Eleven stores must take place inside the physical store. Extending a power cord outside to power a Redbox machine violates the permit.

"It??s our job to enforce these permits," Ross said. "We hope they can manage to retain the machines and move them inside the store." To date, the machines have been removed but have not relocated to inside the stores.

A local resident was not too pleased when visiting one of the affected 7-Eleven stores earlier this week to rent a DVD.

"Now it??s just on-demand on Comcast or using other people??s Netflix," he said.
