Washington Report: House of Representatives Introduces Domestic Fuels Protection Act

Both chambers of Congress have now introduced NACS-supported legislation that provides fuel retailers with the opportunity to sell new fuels in a responsible and legal manner.

April 02, 2012

WASHINGTON - On Friday last week it was the U.S. House of Representatives?? turn to introduce legislation that would allow retailers to offer new fuels with a lower cost of entry and a lower risk of liability. The House version of the Domestic Fuels Protection Act of 2012 is H.R. 4345; the Senate version is S. 2264.

Original sponsors of the House bill are John Shimkus (R-IL), Mike Ross (D-AR), John Sullivan (R-OK) and Collin Peterson (D-MN). NACS wrote last week that the Domestic Fuels Act is "fuel neutral" legislation that ensures Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) equipment compatibility guidelines are recognized, protects retailers from misfueling liability and prevents retroactive liability if a fuel sold today is later declared defective.

Tell your senators and representatives to support S. 2264 and H.R. 4345. For more information about the legislation and for talking points, contact NACS Vice President of Government Relations John Eichberger.
