Green rest areas will feature ethanol fueling stations and electric car recharging bays.

IRVINE, CA - The Ohio Turnpike Commission announced earlier this week that it will open two "green" rest areas next year, TruckingInfo.com reports.

The environmentally friendly rest areas will be powered by renewable energy, including wind and solar power, and offer electricity for truck drivers to heat or cool their cabs.

The service plazas will be situated on both sides of the turnpike in Ohio's Williams County. Facilities will include ethanol fueling stations, electric car recharging bays, Internet hookups for parked trucks, as well as restaurants and gift shops.

The Commission awarded $31 million in construction contracts for the project, the majority of which will come from a 2009 toll increase.
