QuikTrip Planning New Store Without Fuel

New Atlanta-area location will be a walk-up convenience store only.

ATLANTA – the ToneToAtl.com reports that Tulsa, Oklahoma-based QuikTrip is planning to build a new, 3,500-square-foot location on Peach Tree Street in midtown Atlanta without fuel pumps.

“Unlike any of its other metro locations where both gas and convenience store items are available,” this location will be a convenience store only, writes the news source, adding the store will occupy street-level retail space of the Viewpoint condo building, previously home to a Sprint store.

The news source notes that according to QT spokesperson Mike Thornbrugh, the store will be the first for the company in nearly 30 years; a similar concept was tested in Tulsa but never expanded.

“Today, with more and more people moving back to in-town markets, QuikTrip is hoping to find success in non-traditional locations within in-town stores,” writes the news source.

The new location could be open by late May or early June.

“It's no secret that the revenue brought in from the sale of gas is often marginal to gas station operators: the real money is generally in the convenience store items offered inside the store,” writes the news source, noting that it would not be surprising to see QT test its metro concept in other markets.
