Missouri Lawmakers Float Single Bottle Beer Sales

Missouri law currently prohibits selling beer in packages with fewer than three bottles.

JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri state senators have given preliminary approval for Missouri retailers to begin selling beer by the bottle, the Associated Press reports.

State law currently prohibits single bottle beer sales. In fact, retailers are prohibited from selling beer in packages that contain fewer than three bottles.

A second Senate vote is needed to send the measure to the House. If passed by both chambers and signed by the governor, the bill would allow single-serving beer sales to begin in 2015.

Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt, sponsor of the bill, said it promotes freedom and liberty.
