CANTON, Mass. – Dunkin’ Donuts has pledge to remove artificial colors from its U.S. menu by the end of 2018, beginning with a new lineup of cream cheese spreads (plain, reduced fat plain, strawberry, garden veggie, and chive and onion) launching this month.

“It’s our goal to meet the evolving needs of our guests, including their preference for more nutritional transparency and simpler ingredients, while maintaining the great taste and fun, vibrant colors expected from Dunkin’ Donuts. We know that this is important to you, so it is important to us. That’s why our product development teams, in partnership with our suppliers, have been working toward eliminating synthetic colors from our products for several years, and we plan to replace with colors sourced from natural ingredients in the U.S. by the end of 2018,” reads Dunkin’s website.

Within the next two years, all Dunkin’s menu items will contain only colors from natural sources, including donut icings, fillings and toppings, beverages such as fruit smoothies and frozen drinks, baked goods, breakfast sandwiches and coffee flavorings.

Dunkin’ says its work to remove synthetic colors is part of a larger product development process the company started in 2014, which is focused on reformulating many of its products to enhance menu quality by simplifying ingredient labels and lowering sodium and sugar content without sacrificing taste.
