Donut Shop Won’t Sell Donuts

Banned from selling donuts, Honey Dew Donuts will instead sell muffins that contain more calories and sugar than donuts at a new YMCA location.

BOSTON – Honey Dew Donuts is opening up at a Boston-area YMCA; however, it won’t be allowed to sell “unhealthy” donuts, reports The Patriot Ledger.

Instead, the donut shop will offer items that are “definitely tailored to the healthy lifestyle the Y supports,” YMCA spokesperson Sara Trubiano told the newspaper. The new Honey Dew will sell coffee, low-fat muffins, salads, sandwiches, yogurt, fruit cups and smoothies, Trubiano said — menu items that must be approved by YMCA leadership.

According to Honey Dew’s website, the shop’s low-fat muffins contain more calories and sugar than many of its donuts, although the muffins contain more fiber and protein than most of the donuts.
