The bill seeks to make federal agencies more accountable to the American public through greater transparency.

WASHINGTON – NACS, along with a coalition of more than 85 associations, is asking members of Congress to support a comprehensive regulatory reform bill scheduled for a vote by the U.S. House of Representatives this week.

The bill, H.R. 2804, the “Achieving Less Excess in Regulation and Requiring Transparency (ALERRT) Act,” would require the head of each federal agency to submit a monthly report to the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for each rule that an agency expects to propose or finalize during the upcoming year. OIRA would then release information about these upcoming rules, including their estimated costs and benefits, to the public.

“The undersigned groups strongly support current efforts in the House of Representatives to enact regulatory reform legislation designed to make federal agencies more accountable to the American public and their elected representatives, to improve the transparency of agency actions, and to establish a level playing field for citizens who work with — and are regulated by — federal agencies,” wrote the coalition in a letter to House members this week.
