WOONSOCKET, R.I. and MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – CVS Health and Target Corporation announced on Wednesday that the first CVS Pharmacy locations inside Target stores are now open in the Charlotte, North Carolina market.

CVS Health will convert 1,672 Target pharmacies to CVS Pharmacy locations on a rolling basis over the next six to eight months. In 2015, CVS Health acquired all Target pharmacies and retail clinics across 47 states. A CVS Pharmacy will be included in all new Target stores that offer pharmacy services and Target clinic locations will be rebranded as CVS MinuteClinics. CVS Health now has a presence in every state except Wyoming.

“As we roll out the new CVS Pharmacy in Target stores, we will be working closely with patients to make their transition to our services and programs as simple and seamless as possible,” added Helena Foulkes, president of CVS Pharmacy and executive vice president of CVS Health. “CVS Pharmacy in Target stores will not only introduce new customers to our leading pharmacy care and innovative clinical programs, it will also introduce them to a set of digital tools to help them stay healthy.”

RX for Healthy Sales” highlights how over-the-counter drugs and pharmacy services appeal to both aging and younger consumers, as well as the opportunities for convenience stores.

In 1980, the first pharmacy in a QuickChek convenience store opened in Ewing, New Jersey. Today the company has 11 in-store pharmacies. The convenience side of the business is open 24/7; the pharmacies keep traditional hours.

Mike Wunder, a pharmacist and director of pharmacy operations for QuickChek, told NACS Magazine that he sees a potential to expand the concept down the road because it is a natural tie-in to QuickCheck convenience. “Even larger chain pharmacies are constantly trying to find ways to be more convenient,” he said. “All major pharmacies have been adding convenience food. But we already have a food offer that is way beyond anything they’ll ever have.”
