UNITED KINGDOM - Carrefour is forecasting that its network of convenience stores in France could grow by an additional 350 stores this year, reports Just-Food.com.

The retail giant recently opened its 1,000th c-store in France. By the end of 2013, it expects to have 1,350 outlets across four of its c-store banners: Carrefour City, Contact, Express and Montagne.

According to Just-Food.com between 70 and 80 of the additional stores will be new outlets, with the remainder from franchisees switching to the Carrefour banners.

A Carrefour spokesperson told the news source that the presence of more c-stores could change the habits of French shoppers. "Consumers have two main expectations: time management [and] managing their daily spending," the spokesperson said. "The consumer profile is also changing, [with an] ageing population and the rise of single-person households."
