With Tighter Labor Markets, How Does Your Company Stack Up?

Strengthen your performance using industry-wide insights for employee compensation, turnover and benefits at every level.

January 19, 2017

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Your employees are one of the most valuable—and visible—parts of your operation. And, since labor is one of the highest costs of doing business, having exceptional talent on board is essential for success. So what is your company doing differently from the competition when it comes to recruiting, rewarding and retaining employees? How do you measure up?

For nearly 40 years, the NACS State of the Industry Compensation Report® has provided convenience and fuel retailers with fresh insights into their company’s benefits program along with the most industry-specific benchmarking snapshot of employee compensation across the U.S. In 2016, aggregated data was analyzed from nearly 13,000 c-stores across the country.

The deadline to participate in this year’s industry report has just been extended to Friday, February 3, 2017. The confidential survey can be completed online, using a shareable link with members of your team. Your company's data is treated confidentially. Any reporting or references to survey results will be presented in aggregate form only. NACS has honored this pledge of confidentiality for nearly 40 years while reporting aggregated metrics that are critical to the convenience and fuel retailing industry.

While maintaining your company's anonymity, you'll have access to the newest data offered by c-store retailers nationwide—dissected by firm size, U.S. region and location type (rural, urban) —to help you:

  • tailor your programs and set new fiscal year priorities,
  • better understand underlying drivers of your company's performance, and
  • compare your workforce investments against industry averages in key HR categories of compensation, turnover and benefits by position and exemption status.

New this year, the report will also present findings on training/hiring costs, measure the percentage and variety of screening/assessment tools used during the hiring process (e.g., values-based, personality and background checks), and address top of mind issues for convenience retailers, including the cost of hiring and number of interviews conducted for store level positions.

All survey participants will automatically receive the full comprehensive report (a $275 value) with the latest industry data, analysis and insights when it's published in the spring.
