LOS ANGELES - Customers to Starbucks have a new drink choice as the company launches a larger cup size called the "Trenta," Reuters reports. The 31-ounce cup is 7 ounces bigger than the "Venti" size used for iced drinks.

The Trenta is currently available in 14 states, including Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Texas and Virginia, with California getting the larger size Feb. 1. All U.S. locations will have the Trenta by May 3.

The larger size only is for iced tea, iced coffee and iced lemonade beverages. Trenta drinks are priced 50 cents more than similar Venti-sized beverages.

Last year, the coffeehouse chain conducted a test of the Trenta in a few U.S. areas in response to consumer demand for bigger cold drink sizes. Trenta unsweetened beverages will have less than 90 calories, with sweetened versions clocking in at under 230 calories.

Some analysts have speculated that Starbucks is taking aim at McDonald??s Corp, with its espressos, frappes and fruit smoothies and 32-ounce sweet tea beverages priced at a buck, and at the U.S. convenience store market, which have offered fountain beverages in big sizes, such as 32 ounces and 64 ounces.
