UNITED KINGDOM - Spar is introducing two California wines to its own private-label wine offer, reports Retail Times.

The Chardonnay and Zinfandel Reserve wines from California will tap a trend for wines in convenience stores, and offer customers greater choice at a mid-tier price point.

"USA is the most important wine category in convenience, so we want to make sure we are supporting our retailers with the most relevant new wine launches possible, said Charlie Craven, Spar UK??s wine trading manager. "This is a growing sector, and wines that originate from the USA account for more than 30% of total wine turnover in our stores. ??While there are 29 different wines from the USA in the Spar range, only three of these are Spar brand, so there was a real opportunity for us to grow our own brand offering in a popular wine category."

The two new wines will be available in select Spar stores on January 24.
