Pizza Hut Introduces $5 Menu

Chain says the new value menu is a first for the pizza category.

PLANO, Texas – Beginning this week, Pizza Hut launched what it’s calling the pizza category’s first $5 menu, which features a medium one-topping pizza, wings, desserts, bread sticks, pasta and soft drinks.

"Value menus don't really happen in the pizza category. [But] we know that five dollars for a pizza from America's favorite pizza company is a heck of a deal,” said Jeff Fox, chief brand and concept officer at Pizza Hut, in a press release.

Pizza Hut has not set a timeframe for how long the new menu will be available. The company has created a quick-link option on its website to make it easier for digital customers to access and start their order. Nearly half of all Pizza Hut orders are now received via the Web or mobile device.

CNN writes that Pizza Hut’s $5 menu is similar to a $5.99 deal that Domino's has been offering in one form or another since 2010.

"We don't play the price or product-of-the-month gimmick game others seem to. The limited-time-only tactic is something we left behind years ago," Domino's spokesman Tim McIntyre told CNN, adding that Domino's is the only national pizza chain to achieve sales growth every year since 2009.

Papa John’s, meanwhile, is offering customers who buy a large pizza at regular price a chance to buy a second pie for 50 cents.
